Jones Floor Service was founded in 1927 by my grandfather John L. Jones (pictured on the left). This son of a freed slave that became a successful entrepreneur. Becoming the first 'Black' man to own property on Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena California, he was featured in a exhibit at the Pasadena History Museum.
He fathered 10 children. His sons continued in the business and coined the term 'Jones Brothers' Floor service, My father became the first to 'specialize' and his mastery of the craft made him an unparalleled leader in the family business, which brought it to new heights and trained the next generation! Now lead by third generation hardwood floor Master-Craftsmen with many years experience, we give thanks to my grandfather, father's and uncles that made it all possible.
Today we are proud to have five generations of hardwood flooring contractors in our family, this is an attribute I am extremely proud of!
I spent as much time as possible as a youngster going to work with my family during the summer; I can remember riding on the sanding machines. I always knew I was going to be a floor man one day, and being a artist, I wanted to express this in way we presented our craft.
